Annoying Types of Bar Customers: The "I’ll Have What She’s Having"

One of the most frustrating bar customers is the one who acts like they've never been to a bar before, especially when you KNOW that they have been to your bar before. Not just once. Almost every week.

These frustrations are exacerbated when the bar is busy and their lack of bar etiquette is holding everyone else up.

Here's how this played out last night.

Bar Etiquette Mistakes That Slow Down Service

A group of about 30 people walked into what was already a pretty busy Friday night and flooded the bar with their orders at once. Everyone was ordering with separate tabs, most of the group ordering both cocktails and food. No big deal, part of the job.

After getting orders for about half of the group, I got to one of the girls in the group (Girl 1) and asked what she wanted, prompting her to respond by pointing in the general direction of one of her friends (Girl 2).

Me: "She was first?" before realizing that the other bartender was already handing Girl 2 a drink.

Girl 1 just pointed in Girl 2's direction again.

Me: "She already ordered for you?"

More pointing from Girl 1.

"Use your words."

Girl 1: "You don't have to be so mean."

Me: "Talking makes these transactions much more efficient."

"I just want what she's drinking."

I turn to Girl 2, "What are you drinking?"

Girl 2: "Oh, I don't remember which beer the other bartender gave me."

"Who's ready to order?!"
